You are probably wondering what New World Howick and Kyle Mills have in common? A love of cricket for one!
The Apothecary Licensed Eatery is proud to be a supporter and organizer for the New World Howick HPCC (Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club) Annual Fundraising Dinner.
Our thanks to New World Howick for signing on as principal sponsor for the Annual HPCC Charity Fundraiser. Brendon Jones, owner of New World Howick is known for supporting local community events and we thank him for his continued support!
Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club is one of most successful clubs in Auckland. HPCC has produced a number of International cricketers and continues to do so with many new talented young players.
A recent three-peat winner of Auckland’s one day competition, a National club of the year winner and the provider of many current Auckland Ace players – Kyle Mills, Andrew DeBoorder, Colin De Grandhomme, Mitchell McClenaghan, Colin Munro and Donovan Grobbelaar, New Zealand U-19 Players, Auckland ‘A’ and many Auckland U-19 players, as well as current Black Caps Kyle Mills, Colin Munro & Mitchell McClenaghan and former black caps Nash, Walmsley, Walker, Pocock, Tracy, Barrett and Congdon.
HPCC’s home is Lloyd Elsmore Park, with arguably the best clubhouse in New Zealand. The players are backed up with a progressive executive and capable administration staff.
Cricket opportunities are available for both Senior and Junior cricket with grass and artificial pitches maintained by Auckland City Council and their Contractors. The clubrooms, including the Indoor Training Centre with three Indoor lanes, provide all the facilities expected of a club with a vision “To be the Leading Cricket Club in New Zealand”.
The Junior club provides an opportunity for young cricketers to play in an organised sporting environment. At HPCC it is important that there is an emphasis placed on the enjoyment of the game and the club’s objective encompasses this enjoyment with its mission:
“ to provide enjoyable cricket for children of all levels of ability”
The HPCC Charity to be held Friday 5th February at the Picton Centre. Starts 6.30pm! Put this in your diary!
Be entertained by guest speaker Greg Ritchie – funny man and former Australian cricketer.
One of the characters of the game, and affectionately known as “Fat Cat”, the burly Ritchie developed into a first class batsman who possessed wonderful timing when in full, glorious flow for the Australian Cricket Team.
Ritchie played 30 Tests, scored 1690 runs at 35 including three centuries and seven half centuries. Greg played for Queensland for 10 seasons. In the year 2000 he was named as one of the seven greatest Sheffield Shield run scorers in Queensland’s history for amassing over 6000 runs for his state.
Since retiring in 1986, Ritchie has had a continuous media career. This has included two years as a part of the Channel Nine and Optus Vision commentary teams, and three years as part of Brisbane’s Triple M’s weekday breakfast show where his unique sense of humour was a feature.
Greg Ritchie is virtually a one-stop shop in after dinner speaking, a motivator capable of inspiring corporate clients and he is a most humorous raconteur. He is currently recognised as one of Australia’s finest after dinner speakers.
To MC coordinate our fun event, we have and will be amused by no other than comedian Ben Hurley!
Star of hit TV3 Show 7 Days – Ben Hurley is one of the success stories of New Zealand stand-up comedy. Winner of the two biggest comedy awards in New Zealand, the 2004 Oddfellows Billy T award and the 2008 Fred Dagg award, Hurley is a headline act in New Zealand but also on the highly competitive UK circuit. In 2008 he supported Irish superstar Ed Byrne on a 70-date sell out tour of the UK and Ireland.
With a massive but hugely likeable stage presence, Hurley can win over even the toughest room. A sharp improvisational mind and well-honed original material make Hurley a popular act with audiences and critics alike.
Throughout the show will be fantastic Auction prizes to bid on, so come and support your local cricket club and have some fun!
